City of Madison

                The March 10, 1933 edition of the Wisconsin State Journal indicates that City of Madison employees received part of their pay for that week in $5.00 and $10.00 “emergency orders”.  The payment orders were necessary because the City only had $20,000.00 on hand for a $100,000.00 payroll.  No other information or examples of the emergency orders are known.

University of Wisconsin

                The March 6, 1933 edition of the Wisconsin State Journal carried a story indicating the University of Wisconsin was issuing scrip for use by students on campus during the Bank Holiday.  This is the only record of this scrip.  No other information or examples of the scrip are known.
